The Second General Business Session packed a lot of business into a short session on Tuesday. APCO members heard the results of the election of a new executive committee, the executive director’s association year-in-review, and progress reports from federal officials on their work on behalf of public safety communications.

The Distinguished Achievers Breakfastincluded recognition of individuals who earned certifications as well as agencies and PSAPs that earned accreditations. It was bookended with a talk by the CEO of FirstNet and one by an organizational expert about exerting leadership to be successful with a team.

APCO 2018’s Opening General Session featured awards to top performers in the industry and an inspiring speech from the first Medal of Honor winner since Vietnam who lived to see the award.

Each year the Annual Conference Committee volunteers their time to ensuring the APCO Annual Conference & Expo runs smoothly. The chairs, selected almost 18 months prior to the conference, have the big task of ensuring that close to 200 volunteers are well trained and equipped to assist the 5,500 conference attendees over the course of 6 days.
